One-Year Permission Slip

The one-year permission slip is an optional extra. Instead of signing a slip for every meeting and day outing, you sign one slip for your Scout for the program year (August 1 to July 31). Events that need a permission slip accept it.

The One-Year Permission Slip page: the wording you agree to, what the slip never covers, and a card for each of your Scouts to sign or turn off.

It covers your unit’s ordinary events, such as meetings, service projects, courts of honor and day outings.

It never covers these. They always need their own permission slip for that event:

  • Overnight events (anything that runs past midnight)
  • Water activities (swimming, boating, paddling and similar)
  • High-adventure and other higher-risk activities (climbing, shooting sports, backpacking, winter sports, horseback and similar)
  • Treks and voyages, which send their own slip

An event with no activity type is treated the same way, so it needs its own slip.

Only a parent or guardian can sign for a Scout under 18. A Scout who is 18 or older can sign for themselves. A unit leader cannot sign this slip for a family, although a leader can still sign an individual event slip.

  1. Open Permission Slips in the sidebar, then One-Year Permission Slip.
  2. Read the wording.
  3. Type your full name, an emergency contact, and any health notes. Health notes are shared only with the adult leaders who run the events.
  4. Tick the box and choose Sign.

Your signature is recorded on the same consent record we keep for other permissions, with the date and the wording you saw.

Under Upcoming Events you can choose Sign This One Separately for any event the slip would cover. That event then asks for its own slip. Choose Use One-Year Slip to put it back.

Choose Turn Off One-Year Slip at any time. From that moment your Scout needs a permission slip for each event again. Turning it off is recorded, and it keeps working even if your unit later switches the feature off.

Adult leaders see who in the unit has signed for the year, who has not, and who turned it off, together with how many events each family chose to sign separately. They do not see emergency contacts or health notes on that list. On an event, leaders see which registered Scouts are covered and which still need a slip.

See Permission Slips for the per-event slip and the older standing slip.
