Linking Scouts to Your Household

The My Family page (the Family link in your sidebar) is where you connect your own Scouts to your account. Once a Scout is linked to your household, you can follow their advancement, see their events, and receive the communications your unit sends about them.

Linking is a simple two-part flow: you search your unit’s roster for your child, then link the matching record to your household. There is nothing to fill in by hand and no new Scout record to create — your child is already on the roster because a unit leader added or imported them.

The top of the page, My Household, lists everyone currently linked to you. Members are grouped into two sections:

  • Adults — you and any other parents or guardians on the household. These are informational rows. They show the person’s role and, where it applies, a Primary contact badge. Adults do not have a remove button here.
  • Scouts — the youth you have linked. Each youth row has a remove button so you can unlink them later.

Under Find Your Scout, search your unit’s roster for your child:

  1. Enter the First Name (required).
  2. Add either the Last Name or the Date of Birth — at least one is required in addition to the first name. (You may provide both.)
  3. Select Search.

A first-name-only search is rejected: to protect Scouts’ privacy, the platform won’t return the whole youth roster, so it asks you to add a last name or date of birth to narrow the search.

The 'Find Your Scout' search form (First Name, Last Name, optional Date of Birth) with the Search button.

The search only looks at Scouts already registered in your current unit. If no one matches, you’ll see a prompt to check the spelling or contact your troop leader to confirm the Scout is in the system. You cannot add a brand-new Scout from this page — that’s a leader task. If your child isn’t on the roster, ask your leader to add them (see Member Import for how leaders bring Scouts onto the platform).

Each search result appears as a card showing the Scout’s name, age and date of birth, and patrol (if they’re assigned to one). Select Link to My Family on the right card to add that Scout to your household.

A Scout who is already in your household shows a green Linked badge instead of the button, so you won’t accidentally link the same child twice.

When the Scout you’re linking is under 18, the platform must collect your verifiable parental consent before it begins processing their information — a requirement of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and equivalent state laws. Selecting Link to My Family for a minor opens the Parental Consent Required disclosure.

The COPPA MinorConsentDisclosureModal that gates linking an under-18 scout, with the consent checkbox and confirm button.

The disclosure explains what data is collected for your child (name and date of birth, advancement records, event attendance, and any health information you provide) and how it’s used. To continue, tick the I consent checkbox confirming you are the parent or legal guardian, then select the I consent — link your child button. The link only happens after you confirm; closing the dialog cancels it.

Adult Scouts (18+) link in one step with no consent screen.

To unlink a youth, select the remove (trash) button on their card in My Household. A confirmation dialog asks you to confirm before anything changes.

Removing a Scout only unlinks them from your household — it does not delete the Scout from your unit’s roster. You can re-add them at any time by searching again. Note that adults on the household don’t have a remove button; adjusting adult membership is handled by your unit’s leaders.

Granting a teen their own login (where enabled)

Section titled “Granting a teen their own login (where enabled)”

For linked youth aged 13–17, some units enable a Grant login access option on the Scout’s card. This lets you give your teen their own sign-in after a short consent step. The affordance is flag-gated and rolls out unit by unit, so you may not see it yet — if it’s available for your unit, it appears next to the remove button on eligible youth.

Can’t find your Scout, or something doesn’t look right? Reach out to your unit leader first — they manage the roster — or contact support.
